NATCHEZ, MS – Today, Tuesday, September 29, the March On for Freedom 2026 National GOTV Bus Tour continues its journey through the South with two Mississippi stops, first bringing the tour to the Alcorn State University community from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, followed by an evening activation in Natchez beginning at 6:00 PM.
Both stops will bring together free food and drinks, music, special guests and community celebration with voter registration, registration checks, voter education and information about voting and voter protections. A DJ will join the afternoon activation across from Alcorn State.
The Mississippi swing follows several days of organizing across Texas, where the tour joined civic and community leaders in Houston and then traveled to Dallas for State Fair Klassic weekend, bringing its voter engagement work into one of the state’s signature Black and HBCU traditions.
In Houston, the tour’s broader civic engagement work coincided with the Houston Area Urban League’s Freedom Rising convening, which brought together Rev. Al Sharpton, Sen. Royce West, faith and civic leaders around voter education, election protection and community participation.
In Dallas, the bus joined the 31st Annual State Fair Klassic weekend, engaging students, alumni and families alongside Rev. Dr. Frederick D. Haynes III, James Talarico and other community leaders. Haynes delivered the opening prayer during the State Fair Classic, while Talarico spent the weekend engaging Black voters and the HBCU community.
Now the bus is carrying that energy into Mississippi and another historic HBCU community.
Today’s Alcorn activation reflects the central idea behind March On for Freedom: meet people where they are. Rather than waiting for voters to come to traditional political events, the tour is showing up at HBCUs, churches, restaurants, community centers, cultural events and neighborhood gathering places, creating welcoming spaces where people can connect, celebrate and get the information and resources they need to participate.
The tour is focused particularly on Black, Brown and young voters and on turning voter registration into sustained participation. At stops across the country, organizers are helping eligible voters register, check their registration, understand voting rules and deadlines, access voter protection information and make a plan to participate through Election Day.
September is also National Voter Registration Month, with Mississippi election officials encouraging eligible residents to register and existing voters to ensure their information is current.
The Natchez stop carries particular historical resonance. The city was an important center of civil rights and voting-rights organizing, including during Freedom Summer in 1964, when organizers worked with Black Mississippians confronting voter intimidation and barriers to political participation.
March On for Freedom launched earlier this month outside the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, D.C., where congressional, faith, civil rights and movement leaders issued a national call to action around Black history, voting rights and democratic participation.
Since leaving Washington, the bus has moved through communities across the South, taking that call to action on the road and transforming it into voter registration, education, protection and turnout work on the ground.
The tour is led by Registration Nation Action Fund alongside national partners including March On PAC, Future Dems PAC, SEIU, Rainbow PUSH, We Are Somebody and additional national and local organizations.
